We have been wanting to do this craft for a few weeks and I had a canvas waiting for the right thing to be created on it. This was it!
If you have never done it before, it is super easy and you can make some great canvas works of art. There are various ways of doing it, a few outside and nature options too. I'll add those things at the end so you can see.
This is very toddler friendly as it really only involves them using a sponge or paint brush to paint water on paper or a canvas. Clean and easy!
In this particular post we have done our tissue staining within an egg shape for Easter, however that off course is optional, as this is a year round activity to have up your sleeve. We have used Spring colours for Easter, but generally I always think the brighter the better!
What you will need:
Cheap colourful tissue paper, the cheaper the better!
Canvas or white card
A paint brush or sponge
We drew a large egg shape onto our canvas. If you are not making an egg, skip this step.
With your paintbrush/sponge paint the canvas with water, make sure it is all wet. NB: If you are doing the egg shape you want only the egg shape to be painted with water.
Place one piece of tissue paper down at a time. Gently press into the water and paint over with water to seal it. Keep doing this until you have your canvas or areas you want covered covered.
Leave to dry completely.
When dry, life the tissue paper off and see the colour staining left behind!
The final product is shown below! Once the tissue paper was off I used a black marker pen to outline the egg and added the writing. We will keep this work or art and store it away for next year once Easter is over.
If you would like to know how to make the Egg ornaments hanging from our Easter tree, follow the link below. That is another really fun craft we did last year. The have kept wonderfully in a box all year and still look smashing if I don't say so myself!
Some other blogs that have done tissue staining that you might like to look at our shown with follow through links below. Some do this with rain and there is even one done with snow!
